Micromax Canvas 4: Its a Mess!


When you recieve 11,500 pre orders for a phone which you have not even given out the specs then one should something is not very right here. But Micromax had proudly announced a few weeks ago that it had managed to get the biggest pre-order in the history of Indian Smartphone Industry!

And then things went downhill

First came the embarrassing and shocking leak of customer data as reported by Gizmodo.in

We have confirmation that many pre-order customers received an email (on the Canvas 4 launch date) confirming that the balance amount of Rs 13,000 (the initial 5k was deducted at time of pre-order itself) had been deducted from their credit cards. This email (which was forwarded to us with an authentic header file) shockingly contained the order receipts of nearly 130 other customers! And get this - it INCLUDED their shipping and billing addresses, phone numbers, email addresses and even the pre-order site's login and password for every customer!!!

This meant that if there was a hacker in any of the thousands who recieved this confirmation mail could have easily used it to ones advantage to create mayhem, still can!

And then came the actual delivery of the Canvas 4 itself, which interestingly has reached retail stores and yet to reach the customers who pre-booked it!

Here is what one customer shared with Gizmodo.in about the endless agony faced by the members who prebooked the phone

"I feel cheated. It is not an issue about the delay that happened. Somewhere, MMX missed the opportunity to have interactions with customers who ordered. There has not been even a single communication from MMX side.

It feels so awkward when one of my friend shows me MMX Canvas 4 purchased from local market store, while a customer like me who pre-ordered is waiting for it! What was the whole idea of pre-order then? The money that we paid is with MMX for one month at least now, without the product delivered to us. The total of such amount goes into crores, the interest on that much money for one month stands for a lot!"

And if you are one of the customers affected by this mess by Micromax you might consider signing up to the Micromax Canvas 4 users group to make your voices heard.

Well looking at the magnitude and breadth of this Mess by Micromax it looks as if the UMI delays are nothing! Here is a company which we were under the impression is a mature one in the Indian Market and was ready to take its game to the next level- Unfortunately the hype has neither been translated to a great smartphone giving consumers a overpriced, poorly rebranded smartphone with all these "issues".

Sorry Micromax, despite being a great fan of your products I have to give a thumbs down to this kind of unprofessional behaviour!
