Facebook vs Apple to buy Mapping Startup Waze, Facebook maps soon?

Facebook is reportedly working on a 1billion acquisition plan for Israel based Sat-Nav based mapping startup Waze. The company is reportedly on the brink of a $1billion deal.
This could well add the much needed mapping ability to Facebook making it a direct competitor to the Google Maps service. Apple too was in the contention for acquiring Waze as it too had the egg on its face thanks to the iPhone5 Maps fiasco.
Will this lead to a new blockbuster service or is Facebook taking another step towards being all ubiquitous?
