Will Samsung taking Octacore MT6592 Chips from Mediatek alter the Chinese mobile market?

Samsung seems to have taken a cue from HTC and Sony and are all set to take the next set of Octacore MT6592 chipsets that will come out the Mediatek stable. While we are very happy with this news as this will not only get the Taiwanese company the much needed recognition it needs in the International market but also will add a new range of Smartphones in the Samsung Range which will not only be powerful but a good 10-20K cheaper than its current flagships- the S Series and Note series. The possibilities too are exciting!! Imagine a Note 3 with Octacore Mediatek chip, all the bells and whistles on the Note 3 and yet priced in at 30000INR??

But the only worry is all those legions of Chinese manufacturers who stand to lose the already low supply of the Mediatek chips. Will this lead to price increase accross all Chinese phones or will this lead to adoption of lesser known Chips like Allwinner and and Rockchip??

The Chinese phone Industry too is reaching a level of Saturation wherein close to 700 odd brands fight for market space and most of them are solely dependant on the Chinese Markets. A few brands like Lenovo, ZTE, Gionee et al have ventured to the Lucrative Indian markets and are doing a decent job so far chipping away at the monstrous market share the Samsung+Nokia duo command in India.

Will this move by Samsung lead to a radical shift in the Smartphone market? Or will it lead to the rise of another low cost Chip maker? Either way Mediatek is all set to celebrate and early christmas and go laughing all the way to the bank.
