GizChai Exclusive: Fan recounts his experience with the UMI X2, UMI S1, Zopo Zp980 and Oppo X909 at Androidguruz Store

Well the last few months have been a roller coaster as far as the Androidguruz fortunes are concerned in India. It is slowly become one of those companies with which you have a love/Hate relationship with. Even without a single phone sold it has fans who have stood by it and its products through thick and thin while there are others who have been acidly critical of them. We too had been sceptical of them a couple of weeks back and even had concluded an article saying "only a miracle can save them"

Strangely that is what seems to have happened in the past few days!

However something even better seems to have happened! A fan claims that he was actually able to get a hand on the various products in the newly opened store at New Delhi, Nehru place.

We asked him to share his experience with us and one of  his first words were "Hey they were reading GizChai when I entered the store!"

This was one of the most bittersweet feeling for me, I thought back on how critical I was at times at them and yet proud of the fact that they actually read my posts! :)

So we decided to ask Shiva about his experience in the UMI store on 30th May 2013 and he obliged by sending us this brief article

(Before we start, a word of caution, this is a guest post from a fan who visited the Androidguruz Store in New Delhi. He has had a hands on with the phones in the store and agreed to share his experiences with us. We have verified that this is a real person, not a company spokesman. The views reflected here are his own. )

So it was Thursday afternoon I visited UMI MOBILES PVT. LTD a.k.a ANDROIDGURUZ office. The staff is very cooperative and cheerfull there and I got hands on UMI X2, UMI S1, ZOPO ZP980 and the OPPO X909. So here’s my experience.

UMI X2:

The X2 I got hands on was carbon black in colour and the handset nevertheless felt cheap from any side ,it was a premium feel. When I unlocked x2 I can’t let my eyes off from it, the 1080p screen was just soothing to the eyes not too black not too white was an perfect ratio. 

The OS was stock android 4.2 with 2gb RAM and 32 GB ROM. The navigation was smoother and i didn't felt any stutter or lag. There were no black bar issues.

There was a proper google play store with a new thing shown over there “umi store”(I guess it’s a replacement to 10gb dvd they were gonna give. I was unable to check because of no internet connection). Then I checked the cameras, primary 13mp cam was feeling fine(I used it indoors) and HDR was present. The secondary front facing camera was also of good quality. I can’t check the sound quality and video playback as gallery was empty.

Then I decided to check gameplay but hardly there was only one game avail “Truck Drive” which was working smoothly.I minimised the game and still phone was operating smoothly(The game is not that heavy though :D ).Then I benchmarked it and antutu was showing score of 11000+ (don’t remember exact) and nenamark was around 23fps(might be cause of game was still running on background). 

The overall time I spent with umi x2 was awesome , the handset is worth waiting(can’t say for heavy gamers as there wasn’t any heavy game avail so that I can check. But it will work fine as the wickedleak’s new cellphone  with 29fps can play nova 3 smoothly so will umi x2).

UMI S1:

So the second hands on was with UMI S1, lemme tell you when I took s1 in my hand I got remind of HTC Butterfly. Its similar to HTC Butterfly in design.The looks were good but I still liked the x2 looks. When I unlocked it was a 720p screen in front and was good but its wan’t that crispy as an 1080p screen of umi x2 was. But no doubt the brightness level was awesome much higher than umi x2. Hardly there was no benchmarking software or any kind of game on the UMI S1 though I checked the camera and quality was kind of fine (there were minor problems with the camera app present).

Short time with OPPO X909 and ZOPO ZP980

OPPO X909:

When I got hands on OPPO X909 I can’t describe it in words. Killer looks, I seriously liked the design and quality much as it was classy and feels much premium. OPPO X909 has modified the OS a bit as it has got the apple style icons and no stutter or lag was noticed

ZOPO ZP980:

It was the only phone that was feeling odd between three of the UMI X2,UMI S1 and the OPPO X909 as the design was the fact that I seriously disliked it, though design was not that bad(depends on taste of design you have) .The operations were smoother on it and cam was same as a similar class phone does have.

Final Verdict:

The perfect display that was soothing to eyes was of UMIX2. The display on UMI S1 was much brighter than the rest(though OPPO X909 brightness level was close) following by OPPO X909 UMI X2 and ZOPO zp980 . Overall UMI X2 is value for money if you are looking for an 1080p phone neither UMI S1 is a good replacement with a 720p(however config vary but performance of S1 is great) though I can’t say much about service centers that part I forgot to ask(though UMI has listed service centers)

First time in life I had hands on with Chinese brands and lemme tell you they nevertheless feel cheap nor was their hardware. They were as operational as an international known brand can be but with much lower cost and competitive configuration. This experience has changed my mind towards Chinese phones.

A lil Talk with Android Guruz team:

Q.  Sir everybody is losing trust because of the delays and false promises regarding deliveries people are waiting since march

A.  The delays first was due to slow production of china team then when we  finally got the stock the government duties and processing then IMEI clearance is taking too much time. We are trying our best to deliver to our customers

Q. What about deliveries?

A. we have already delivered around 1000 of pieces and are processing further

About AndroidGuruz Store:

It was delayed because we are planning to get more than 100 brands first and then showcase them. As they told AndroidGuruz Store is going to start within this month around 12^th june

Q When is the turbo version releasing?

We are expecting stock by 19th June, but we will post it once it is confirmed. We do not want to create any false hype here.

Spammers and Problems that are creating negativity:

Thousands of unknown spammers are sending fake refund request and people that haven’t even booked the phone(some other brand lovers) are bad mouthing at forums and misguiding people.

At last From all talks I felt these people are trying really hard to bring a cell phone (UMI X2) that’s even not available in china yet(has low stocks). They need Trust and Support. So friends finally be patient the UMI X2 is worth waiting
