Facebook, Nokia, MediaTek, Ericsson, Samsung, Opera and Qualcomm join Hands to form Internet.org

Facebook, the world's largest social network has teamed up with 6 other tech companies,Nokia,MediaTek,Ericsson,Samsung,Opera and Qualcomm to make www.internet.org Aiming to help 2/3rd non internet using population to come online.

The collaborative effort plans to bring down costs for deployment of such large infrastructure, By reducing the cost and amount of data required for most apps and enabling new business models.

Still, there are many who have to struggle for basic internet access, and for that  Google has launched Project Loon in which they released 30 helium-filled balloons that intends to provide Internet access to rural and remote areas. Although, google is not part of Internet.org as Project Loon was launched a few months ago, but combined these two initiatives can reach their common aim even sooner.

"There are huge barriers in developing countries to connecting and joining the knowledge economy. Internet.org brings together a global partnership that will work to overcome these challenges, including making internet access available to those who cannot currently afford it," says Mark Zuckerberg, CEO, Facebook.
