Huawei Ascend P1 is a Samsung Galaxy S2 Plus clone at 12990INR!

Ah the Samsung Galaxy S2! It was a beauty that inspired legions of smartphone fans to learn the true meaning of having a "Smartphone" not to mention a tonnes of Chinese "inspired" knockoffs in the months to come. The S2 may be long retired now and with software updates to officially come to an end for the ageing device at 4.2.2 its time to say adios. Its successor the Galaxy S2 Plus is also not seen the market too nowadays, guess it might be phased out soon.

But the Huawei Ascend P1, a phone announced back in January 2012 is finally making its way into India this Independance day and is listed online for 12990INR. The phone is a clean clone of the Samsung Galaxy S2 plus including the 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Capacitive, 1.5Ghz Dual Core processor, 1GB RAM, 8MP AF camera capable of 1080p video recording, front facing VGA camera and 1650mAH battery. Compare it side by side to the samsung Galaxy S2 plus and you will have a tough time knowing which is the clone and which is the original.

Even the extended chin the bottom the back cover, Corning Gorilla Glass protection and Camera design seems all well "inspired" by the Legendary Galaxy.

Key Features of the Huawei Ascend P1 are

  • 7.7mm thin body
  • Quad-band GSM and penta-band 3G with HSPA support
  • 4.3" 16M-color capacitive Super AMOLED touchscreen of qHD resolution (540 x 960 pixels)
  • Android OS v4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
  • Two homescreen options - vanilla and 3D
  • Dual-core 1.5GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, PowerVR SGX540 GPU, TI OMAP 4460 chipset
  • 4GB of inbuilt storage (2.3GB user accessible)
  • 8 MP autofocus camera with LED flash and geo-tagging and 1080p video recording @ 30fps
  • Wi-Fi b/g/n and DLNA, hotspot functionality
  • GPS with A-GPS
  • microSD slot, up to 32GB
  • Sensors: Accelerometer and proximity sensor
  • Standard 3.5 mm audio jack; Dolby Mobile 3.0+
  • Stereo FM radio with RDS
  • MHL-enabled microUSB port (charging) and stereo Bluetooth v3.0
  • Front facing camera
A jelly bean update is in the works too and one should be getting it soon too.

At 12990INR its a decent price tag and has better options than its nearest competitors the Samsung Galaxy S Advance and the Micromax A90S. So if you are in the market for an entry level smartphone then the Huawei Ascend P1 is a good VFM proposition in the branded mobile segment
